Having bad breath is too common than ever among people regardless of age and status in life. Bad breath is caused by oral dryness, stress, hunger, eating certain foods such as garlic and onions, smoking, and poor oral care. Most people having bad breath aren't even aware that they have a problem, until they get too close to another person. Clinical research has shown that despite brushing, flossing and mouth washing, up to eight out of ten people suffer from bad breath. To tackle the problem, every one should:
* Use a tongue cleaner as bacteria often reside at the back of the mouth which can be hard to reach with a toothbrush.
* Chew sugar-free gum as it promotes saliva production which keeps the mouth lubricated.
* Floss frequently to removed food debris that lodged between teeth that rot and give off bad odors.
* Drink water the fact that its rinsing effect refreshes the mouth and removes bacteria.
* Brush twice and remember that excessive brushing doesn't help in tackling bad breath.
* Avoid smoking as cigarettes also have their own odor that is disliked by non-smokers.
* Avoid pungent food as they contain onions and garlic - they taste great but others around you may dislike the smell.
* Avoid caffeine products that have a drying effect in the mouth. Like perfumes that dry quickly, the drying or evaporation effect promotes transfer of odor.
* Avoid low carbohydrate/high protein diets.
