Gum disease or necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis as its scientifically is known, is a common dental disease caused by bacteria. More people have it than those who don't. It is responsible for more dental visits and dentures than any other dental disease. If it is caught early, treatment is easy and very effective. If left untreated, gum, bone, and tooth damage is common. In severe cases, it isn't unusual for there to be tooth loss. The best thing to do to avoid gum disease is taking good care of your teeth and regularly sees your dentist.
We briefly discussed how gum disease causes gum soreness. The bacteria attacks the gums at the tooth line and essentially eat away at the tissue. The result is sensitive, sometimes bleeding gums. Over time, the gums will pull back away from the surface of the teeth and create pockets of infection. You will need a dentist to repair the damage and give you a healthy set of teeth and gums again.
One of the other more obvious signs of gum disease is bad breath or halitosis. As if things weren't bad enough. All of that infection in your mouth creates an odor even a mother can't love. Everyone experiences brief periods of bad breath and halitosis occasionally, but if it is a constant in your life, it's time to get the situation checked out. Your dentist will be able to help with remedies for bad breath as well as cure the gum disease. This isn't a situation you just have to live with.
Always remember to have any gum soreness checked out by your dentist. Using an all natural product like OraMD© is a great gum disease preventative measure as well.
